The new 2017 Volvo V60 comes in an-already populated segment, however, with its cushy and supportive seats, extensive safety features, a stylish design, a nicely balanced handling and ride quality, and efficient Drive-E powertrain, it will certainly be an appealing alternative to either small luxury crossovers or sedans. Its date of release should be expected in February next year, according to various sources we interviewed.
The Swedish automaker was re-established two years when the Volvo V60 debuted in the automotive scene. The midsize station wagon segment has long been eschewed in the U.S but despite this setback, it has always managed to serve people who find minivans and Sport Utility Vehicles bulky, boxy, or too big for their needs.
In spite of being seen as a relic of the 1950’s and 60’s, the V60 has continued to attract both admiration and skepticism alike. This, however, hasn’t prevented the V60 from establishing its position in the market as a capable and versatile station wagon. For starters, the Volvo V60 is a wagon version of the luxury-themed 2017 Volvo S60 model which is covered on a separate review.
That said, buyers should expect a praise-worthy performance, fuel-efficiency, tons of safety features, 20 cubic feet of cargo room, and plenty of Swedish styling. In fact, one of the most defining attribute of the vehicle is its sleek styling which is the first thing that will certainly take you by surprise.
Combine that with the upscale technologies and fuel-sipping engines, and you’ve got yourself something worth bragging about. EPA says we should expect about 29 mpg of combined highway/city rating. A potent 3.0L turbocharged inline-six engine good for 325 hp and 345 lbs. ft. of torque provides the inspiration needed to get behind its wheels every time you deem necessary.
Not everything is a bed of roses in the 2017 Volvo V60 so to speak. Its cargo volume in particularly gets a beating by most rivals including BMW’s own wagon. The rear seat is also tight and will be frustrating for 6-footers.
Not many choices are available on this tiny segment. But shoppers should first consider other offerings before committing to the V60. Notable alternatives include the 2017 Audi A4 Allroad, the BMW 328i xDrive, and Volvo’s own 2107 XC70.
