Although most luxury crossover SUVs offer better on-road performance and passenger comfort, the new 2017 Lexus GX 460 still remains as a capable off-roader with three rows of seating. It offers plenty of luxury features and technologies as well. Its release date should be expected in the latter half of next year.
It still manages to coddle its occupants on the pavement as it has over the past with engaging character and comfort amenities. Only a handful of automakers (Lexus and Land Rover) have been able to construct a worthwhile luxury off-roader. In fact, Lexus has managed to offer several of them including the new 2017 Lexus GX 460.
As a division of Toyota, Lexus has mostly borrowed the mechanical tidbits used in the construction of the GX 460 from Toyota’s Land Cruiser Prado. It combines a full-time AWD, a high-clearance suspension, and a body-on-frame construction to enable serious off-roading. Several packages and options are offered for the various trims available depending on an array of consumer’s priorities.
With a V8 under its hood, the GX 460 is capable of offering the power needed for urban cut-and-thrust. Being a Lexus, the SUV comes with obvious luxuries in its cabin such as leather upholstery and automatic climate control. However, there are several drawbacks such as a cramped backseat and an aging tech interface.
There are several crossover SUVs that will serve you better especially for those who spend more time on the pavement rather than off of it. One particular standout is the 2017 BMW X5. The X5 may fall short in terms of off-road chops but offers a better handling, on-road performance, more interior space, and a higher fuel economy ratings.
The other crossover worth your while is the 2017 Land Rover LR4 especially for those who insist on detouring through the jungles of Cameroon on your way to Neiman Marcus. Ad while you’re weighing in your options, don’t overlook the RX-Series which is Lexus own.
