The new 2017 Koenigsegg Regera was unveiled during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show to a rousing reception. Since then, the Regera has seen a steady rise in customer orders. Back then it was only but a concept, however, after an intense period of homologation, testing, and development, the production model is now an outstanding reality. The Koenigsegg Regera USA release date should be expected sometime before this fall.
According to Koenigsegg, the changes made to the concept were so intense and reached 3,000 by the time the vehicle was ready for the production stage. This, however, shouldn’t be taken to mean that the Regera has evolved significantly from the concept that debuted on the Geneva Motor Show last year.
The newest Koenigsegg is now more lightweight and its curb weight is estimated to be just 1590 kgs. According to Swedish marque, the Direct Drive system which the company was in the process of getting a patent for, was once of the biggest challenge posed in realizing the production vehicle. The wait, despite being long, presents plenty of appealing features and rewards.
The Direct Drive system is a brand new technology that rids mechanical, complexity, and weight losses that come with the classic gearbox. The result of such savings is a blistering acceleration and a seamless, effortless driving quality. Furthermore, during brisk acceleration, the automaker has developed a clutch-slip mechanism that converts the torque at medium/high speeds by using the hydraulic coupling. The result is an enjoyable driving sensation.
Shift paddles remain on either side of the steering wheel. The one on the right is used in activating the “downshift” coupling operation, while the other one is used to enhance the regenerative braking effect thus enabling the battery pack to recharge more effectively. Talking of the battery pack, the automaker went to great lengths to find for the best possible pack for the Regera. The result of the intensive search led to the world’s first 800V production car that provides an awesome 525 kilowatts of discharge and 200 kilowatts of recharge power.
In terms of power, the Koenigsegg Regera 2017 undeniably represents the epitome of high performance motoring courtesy of the car’s impressive power output rated at 1500+ horsepower and more than 2000 pounds-feet of torque. With such a scintillating performance, the Koenigsegg Regera 0-100 km/h only takes 2.8 seconds, and 3.9 seconds from 150-250km/h.

As is expected, the interior of the Regera offers optimum comfort and functionality. Wi-Fi functionality and Apple CarPlay functions are standard technologies on the Regera. The seats are comfortable and supportive and feature electrical and heating adjustment. Here, compromise is avoided at all costs in terms of race-car performance, comfort, and luxury.
Some of the standard accessories available on the 2017 Koenigsegg Regera interior include adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights and wipers, adaptive xenon headlights, inductive charging system, heated and ventilated seats, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alerts, upgraded Brembo brakes, machine aluminum trimmings on the center console, leather/Alcantara/carbon fiber upholstered seats, four-zone automatic climate control, LCD-based instrument cluster, USB connectivity, driver and passenger memory settings, ambient interior lighting, and smartphone app connectivity.
In terms of competition, the Pagani Huayra and the Hennessey Venom GT are potential candidates. The Hennessey Venom GT is perhaps the most powerful production supercar to ever get produced in the USA. It offers an insane power output rated at 1244 hp and a tire-shredding 1155 lbs. ft. of torque generated from a twin-turbocharged 7.0L LSX V8 engine behemoth.
The Pagani Huayra, on the other hand, is much similar to the Koenigsegg Regera and offers a stupefying performance thanks to the bespoke, twin-turbocharged, Mercedes-AMG V12 engine that cranks a whopping 720 hp and 738 lbs. ft. of torque. The Pagani Huayra 0-60 takes a blistering 3.0 seconds.
2017 Koenigsegg Regera Engine Specs
The new 2017 Koenigsegg Regera offers a 5.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine that pairs to the 700 horsepower- and 664 lbs. ft. of torque worth of electric motors to generate a combined output of at least 1,500 hp and 1475 lbs. ft. of torque.
All this power gets sent to the rear wheels via the patent-pending Koenigsegg Direct Drive system. Two extra electric motors are placed one each on the rear wheels. This combination offers enough power to propel the 2017 Koenigsegg Regera from 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 250 mph. The powertrain actually shares a lot with the mills found inside the 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo model.
