The new 2017 Kia Soul is a great choice for an urban commuter or as an alternative to a small crossover owing to its extensive feature content, fun-to-drive attitude, funky styling, and wagon-based practicality. Other strengths include excellent crash test scores, a long warranty, user-friendly controls, spacious passenger space, and an attractive cabin. Its release date should be expected sometime in August 2017.
The boxy design of the 2017 Kia Soul affords more usable cargo space than some hatchbacks and small crossovers. As befitting of a car of its dimensions, practicality is Kia Soul’s greatest strengths. There is plenty of interior space that is well-distributed for ample head-and legroom. However, the same can’t be said about its cargo volume.
Another compelling feature about the Soul is the sheer number of options available, you can virtually customize it in any way. Throw in premium feature such as ventilated and heated front seats, and leather and you’ve got a serious vehicle unrivaled by very few cars in its segment.
The meteoric rise of compact and subcompact crossovers has sounded the death knell for tall, boxy wagons. It continues with the same tradition passed down to it by the Nissan Cube or the Scion xB. It is even proving hard to categorize it as it’s possess multiple attributes that traverses several segments.
However, some have criticized its ride as being harsh especially with larger wheels. Also, its engines are fuel thrifty relative to what the competition offers. As such, you should consider its competition first. Some of them include the 2017 Mazda 3, 2017 Honda HR-V, the fun-to-drive 2017 Ford Focus, and the pricey 2017 Volkswagen SportWagen.

2017 Kia Soul Engine Specs
Two different engines are offered under the hood of the 2017 Kia Soul: a four-cylinder 1.6L engine and a 2.0L four-cylinder engine. The former is offered for the base Soul and generates 130 hp and 118 lbs. ft. of torque which is transferred to the front wheels via the standard six-speed manual transmission system. According to EPA estimates, we should expect 30/24/26 mpg on the highway/city/combined.
The four-cylinder 2.0L engine is offered with the Soul + model and is rated at 164 hp and 151 pounds-feet of torque. Similarly, it is offered with a six-cylinder engine which is responsible for routing the power to the AWD system. EPA says you should expect 31/24/27 mpg.
It is rumored the 2.0L Soul is gutsier than the 1.6L version and will probably be the preferred choice for most buyers.
