Debuting this year is the newest 2017 Kia Sportage model. The vehicle was showcased at the auto show in Frankfurt and audience were able to get a first glimpse of the car which is going to get is release date the following year. The car enters into its fourth generation model which brings us a redesigned exterior and an interior with various updates. We also get a new engine option as well as some high-tech technological features on the inside.
The Sportage can be best described as being a jack-of-all-trades type of a car, as is any crossover model in fact. It gives us a combination of fuel efficiency, great performance, immense practicality and a refined unique package in a single car like this.
The Kia Sportage has become a cornerstone of the brand’s lineup, which is great to think about as the model was introduced in the early 90s for the first time. The growing popularity of each model helped the car become even greater and more known in the automobile circles. The car is not going to release a new model this time and will only add an update which is perhaps going to be a chance for the competition to take matters into their own hand and do something about it.
Kia Sportage 2017 is not taking chances with a new generation vehicle for now so we hope that this model is going to bring the best out of the car and resolve some issues that the previous one used to have. Keep reading the review so you see what the car has been hoping to achieve.
This is going to be an evolution rather than a revolution of the fourth generation 2017 Kia Sportage model in terms of its exterior design. It is actually very easy to tell the new and the current model apart as the “tiger-nose” grille, which is the most prominent part of the car, has been separated from the headlights. Its positioning is lower and wider and provides better engine cooling. The headlights are borrowed form the Kia KX3 concept model that was made a few years ago. They are moved higher and a little bit stretched than before and also come with a “Dynamic Bending” feature.
The side of the car sees some slightly beefed up wheel arches, the liens and the creases have sharper angels while the roof falls to the back at a more gradual incline. But the rear of the car has the most change. It has several horizontal lines that are added which emphasize the width of the car now. The rear spoiler is longer and extends the roofline and there is also a slender taillights design this time as well. There is an additional dividing crease that splits the hatch and the turn signals are positioned lower beneath the bumper. The car also has a wheel choice between 16-inches, 17-inches, and an impressive 19-inches.
Kia has announced that the most significant changes have happened on the inside of the 2017 Kia Sportage. The dashboard has been redesigned with many new horizontal lines which gives us a sense of greater width. The interface is driver-oriented while all the buttons and switches of the car are angled a bit towards the driver. The gauges are placed astride the central information display and the speedometer has not been used this time.
There are some new color schemes that are offered this time, the single-tone black, Dark and Light Grey two-tone, and Black and Canyon Beige two-tone. The console is finished in a standard black trim while the sunroof has been extended to a total of 19.3-inches total.
Infotainment is provided by a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen which is placed in the dash. Using this you can access the Kia’s Connected Services and satellite navigation and TomTom providing stuff like real-time traffic updates. All in all, the Kia Sportage 2017 is going to be very useful car and we cannot wait for the release date to see all the changes in person.
There are a few engine options when it comes to the performance of the 2017 Kia Sportage model. The top of the line option is the 1.6-liter T-GDI direct injection engine. This one is called the Gama unit and is the model found inside the GT and pro_cee’d GT models. Its peak output is measured at 75 horsepower, with torque rated at 195 pound-feet between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm.
As this is the only new engine option, other ones are going to be carried over from the third-generation one. This means the 1.6-liter GDI, producing 130 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque, 1.7-liter CRDi diesel, producing 113 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque and 2.0-liter “R” diesel, which can make 134 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, or 181 horsepower and a whopping 295 pound-feet of torque.
The Kia Sportage 2017 comes in several trim options this year as well and you will be able to get the LX, EX, and SX Turbo models, respectively.
