2017 Acura NSX Coupe Release Date, News, Specs – For 2017, the Acura NSX promises a triumphant return for a car that was once an icon in terms of performance and design. It comes with a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system and a new hybrid powertrain, an exotic style, and a well-appointed cabin. Its release date hasn’t been released yet, but it will likely be before the spring of 2017.
A first for the NSX coupe includes a V6-powered hybrid rated in excess of 500 horsepower; a dramatic styling and aluminum construction; and a slew of safety features. It has been quite some time now ever since the debut of the NSX during the Detroit Motor Show five years ago. Then again, Acura’s commitment in reviving its halo supercar was initiated by a subsequent Super Bowl commercial starring Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld and a production model finally debuted last year.
Sadly, we won’t be able to see it on the road as the production schedule has been pushed forward. This, according to Acura, has been occasioned by the development delays. But regardless of the setbacks, the 2017 Acura NSX will finally be here.
Due to the added mass of the hybrid and electric components, there was a need by Acura to reduce the NSX curb weight. This has been achieved through extensive use of carbon fiber floor and aluminum steel frame. Although its curb weight hasn’t been announced yet, the NSX is expected to weight around 3,803 pounds – representing about 597 pounds of added weight over the original model.
According to its engineers, the new model will have a lowered center of gravity which inevitably will bode well for steering precision and handling at top speeds. And talking about top speed, the new NSX, according to an official announcement, is expected to hit 191 mph, and a 0-60 mph acceleration in just under 3.0 seconds. The fuel economy test-drives haven’t been conducted yet but we expect the details in the next couple of weeks
Engine Specs – 2017 Acura NSX
Under the hood of the new 2017 Acura NSX lies several changes and add-ons which is obvious given the time it has been away. It is still powered by a V6 but unlike the outgoing model, the new vehicle comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged, direct injected V6 that mates to a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission system to power the rear wheels.
Augmenting the V6 is a combination of three electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. One of the electric motors provides both initial torque surge and regenerative braking before the turbos get up to full strength. Additionally, they aid in quickening the gearshifts through slowing or spiking engine speeds.
There is also an impressive degree of independence of the front wheels and the rear wheels, this is meant to improve response and handling. Also, there exist no connection between the front wheels and the V6 powerplant.
There has been no announcement from the automaker about the engine specifications as of this writing. But what is known though is that the new V6 working solo should be able to crank out a whopping 500 horsepower. For more details take a look on http://nsx.acura.com/
