This year New York Auto Show saw the unveiling of the third generation 2017 Hyundai Tuscon model. This is a design which is being updated in the manner that current and latest Hyundai models have been made, making them contemporary and much handsome looking cars. This includes such changes and additions like a hexagonal grille and vertical slats, which are going to attract a more mature fan base, while the body of the car has more appeal to a younger crowd.
The Hyundai Tuscon was released for the first time in 2004 and was given to us on the same platform the Hyundai Elantra was made. It was a small crossover vehicle which was ranked just beneath the mid-size Santa Fe model. But it was the 2010 model that gave us a much sportier appearance and look of the Tuscon model and it was also the announcement of their second generation lineup.
With this kind of a look already getting dated, the model has entered in its third generation stint, which started with its 2014 model. The new 2017 model is going to be a redesigned version which is going to attract a lot of fans and bring much attention to the name. An interesting fact is that when the release date comes the model is going to be known as the Hyundai Tuscon for all the markets, even the foreign ones, as the past models used to use a “ix35” for some markets.
This review will help you determine how the model ranks up against its competition, namely the Ford Escape and Jeep Cherokee, and whether it has an upper hand against them.
The 2017 Hyundai Tuscon has been given a full redesign of its exterior. With a much bolder and upscale look, the car ranks pretty well in this type of a market and enjoys some benefits to its segment. The front end of the car receives the hexagonal grille with vertical slats which is a signature mark for the model. The entire front fascia has a more upscale look and while the lower apron of the car has horizontally oriented fog lights and surrounds, which give the car a wider look. The LED headlights have the same effect, while the wing-like lower section of the bumper makes it more sporty looking.
Judging from the profile of the car we see that the A-pillar has been pushed back a little bit. It adds a little bit of separation being made between the hood and the A-pillar but it actually lengthens the appearance of the hood that way. There is a sharp accent line which goes from the front to the back side of the car and starts from the front wheel arches and ends at the taillights in the back.
The rear end has been given some slimmer taillights, with a redesigned tailgate and a lower bumper, which is something that the mature crowd is going to appreciate. This model is a lot refined looking now and it may just prove to be an even hotter sell than the current Hyundai Sonata model.
The interior of the 2017 Hyundai Tuscon receives a similar kind of a redesign as the exterior does. The result is a much more premium looking cabin which is in turn made possible with the introduction of some fine grade materials and Wine Red leather additions. The 2017 version is also larger than the previous one, so when you see the car on the inside after its release date for the first time you will see that you will be much more cozier on the inside and have a lot more cargo room to hold your stuff. The model offers 101.9 cubic feet of passenger space and 25.7 cubic feet of cargo space. With the seats folded down the spacing improves to 102.2 cubic feet of passenger volume and 31 cubic feet of rear cargo space and a maximum cargo capacity of 61.9.
The dashboard of the Tuscon has been overhauled as well. The touscscreen on the central part of it has been surrounded by metal-look bezel with air vents. We also get a more premium-looking HVAC control interface, adding to the overall appeal of the car as well. The changes are finished with the introduction of a new steering wheel design which matches the other models from the lineup with its look and all in all makes the new model a lot better than the outgoing one,
The European version of the 2017 Hyundai Tuscon is going to get a pair of 1.6-liter gasoline engines, a naturally aspired one with 133 horsepower and a turbocharged with an output of 174 horsepower. The base engine option combines with a six-speed manual transmission while the turboshcarged version uses either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
There are two diesel options available for Europe as well, the 1.7-liter unit that makes 113 horsepower and uses a six-speed manual transmission, and a 2.0-liter engine that has an output of 134 horsepower or 181 horsepower and uses a six-speed manual or the seven-speed DCT.
The North American release of the Hyundai Tuscon 2017 makes use of two four-cylinder engines, a 2.0-liter164-horsepower one and a turbocharged 1.6-liter making 175-horsepower. The base option has a six-speed automatic, while the later uses a seven-speed DCT.
