2017 Ford Focus RS Release Date, Specs, Review – Ford is releasing its third-generation vehicle with the announcement of the 2017 Ford Focus RS brand that comes out in less than a year. Ford has been looking for a way to refresh and repolarize its brand which was initially released for the first time in 2002. There are several updates that the car is going to get for its 3rd-gen incarnation which will be more than impressive to have.
Ford introduced its RS badge tot eh Focus category in 2002 after using it for its Escort RS 1600 and Escort RS Cosworth cars. The initial vehicle had FWD and a bit more than 200 hp to it. With a Volvo-sourced five-cylinder with 305 horsepower engine and a FWD, the second generation of the Focus RS models was announced, sporting a much better appearance and performance. Torque-steer was kept to a minimum though, while the car still managed to offer WRC-like performance for the road.
The third-gen is going to change all of that as it comes with an innovative all-wheel-drive system. It is going to be made in the German plant where the previous models have been made as well and it is planed that they are going to make it available for sale all around the world, which is being done for the first time with this car. Completely new for the 2017 Focus RS is the Mustang-sourced, 2.3-liter, EcoBoost engine that brings around 300 hp into the mix. The only competitors worth to mention are the Honda Civic Type R model and the Subaru WRX STI. Find out more about the release date and specs of this vehicle in the given review.
2017 Ford Focus RS exterior
The exterior of the 2017 Ford Focus RS has very fitting look for an RS brand. It looks like the way a rally driving car should look like and has all the makings of a brilliant model. The front end of the car has a massive grille which takes over the better part of the front side of the car. There is a front splitter added which extends far down to the ground and offers a very nice look to the intercooler part. There are some large openings on each side of the bumpers made available which enable air flow and coolant to the brakes. It is also where a pair of fog lights has been placed which look similar to the ones in the Kia Pro’Ceed.
The profile of the vehicle has a typical RS style with widened wheel arches so the 19-inch wheels can be used without any problems. The back side of the car has a dominative aerodynamic diffuser which is placed at the back of it. It helps to reduce drag and creates better downforce efficiency. There are dual exhaust tips at each side of the diffusers and a rear roof spoiler which completes the racing look. The car is greatly designed and has a very good looking shape for the brand it bears, we really like its design and especially the Liquid Blue color that the vehicle was initially showcased in.
As you would have expected it to be, the interior of the 2017 Ford Focus RS has all race-like features placed inside of it. The standard Recaro sports seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel is the benchmark of the newest design and is also decorated with various RS badges placed everywhere in the vehicle. European and Asian customers have the opportunity of choosing RS Recaro shell seats with authentic motorsport microfiber fabric panels. The setup is completed with a alloy sports pedals and a new shifter which adds matching graphics and an additional instrument cluster sitting on top of the center console.
You also get SYNC connectivity as standard as it gives you access to full length of new features that may come as very useful to you. You can control the sat-nav, climate control system, the audio system and everything by using an 8-inch touchscreen or operating it with voice commands. A special feature is being able to tell the car to “find a racetrack” and the car will immediately point you to the nearest one in your area.

The 2017 Ford Focus RS is going to have the same engine which is used in the 2015 Mustang car. The turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine produces 345 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque, with a maximum torque 3,200 between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm and an overboost function of 347 pound-feet for 15 seconds at a time. The Focus RS vehicles offered for the US market will be able to provide 350 horsepower at 6,000 rpm on way to 6,800-rpm redline and 350 pound-feet of torque at 3,200 rpm. But the best news comes from the newly available all-wheel drive system which is going to be able to send up to 70 percent of the available torque to the rear axle.
