Thanks to the excellent eight-speed automatic transmission system, supple ride quality, useful tech features, refined and hush cabin, a thrifty diesel V6, and a winning combination of strong powertrains and a well-trimmed cabin, the new 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 is certainly a top contender in the full-size pickup segment. Its release date should be expected sometime in the latter half of next year, at least according to recent news.
With the RAM 1500 Rebel celebrating only two years in the segment, it has managed to become an off-ready beast with an intimidating presence on the road. The RAM 1500 model offers an excellent handling and a remarkable supple ride. Throw in the easy-to-use infotainment system, and the high-quality cabin materials and you’ve got yourself an award-winning pickup truck.
Introduced seven years ago, the vehicle has managed to keep up with the rest of its competition by offering excellent specs thanks to the constant redesigns Dodge continues to give it. There is plenty of likable features available to make up for the lack of newness. It is still a great choice for a full-size truck despite its age, in fact, you would have to look long and hard to notice its grey areas, as its refined manners have belied its age.
One of the most distinctive RAM trait is its smooth ride courtesy of the class-exclusive coil-spring rear suspension system which smoothens the harshness of rough road surfaces. In terms of comfort, the optional air suspension system is probably your best bet as it prevents it from drooling especially when dealing with a full payload or heavy trailer. This is made even more possible by the self-leveling feature available as a standard system on the RAM.
However, if you’re looking for impressive towing capacities, you’d be better off with the heavy duty models. Some of the changes to expect on the new model include new LED lights in the bed, bright exterior color paint scheme, and lots of storage spaces on the full center console. Even so, the RAM 1500 suffers from an odd rotary shift dial, modest acceleration, and a higher up-front cost for the diesel engine.
In as much as the new 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 is among the list of our favorites, there are several other pickup trucks in the segment that stand out from the crowd. They include the Ford F-A50, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Nissan Titan XD, and the Toyota Tundra.
