With top-notch interior craftsmanship, a sporty handling, Hybrid and TDI’s impressive fuel economy, a refined driving character, and TDI and 3.0T quick acceleration, the new 2017 Audi Q5 is an excellent choice. It’s an aging star though, but a star nevertheless. Its release date should be expected sometime in July 2017.
The 2017 Audi Q5’s crisp looks epitomize understated luxury. Inside, you’ll get supportive and comfortable seats with ample room. The exterior styling is similarly timeless, and it would be wise to conclude that the Q5 hasn’t aged a day.
When is a vehicle truly past its past? We are confident that the new 2017 Audi Q5 isn’t there yet although it’s a difficult question to answer. Matters under its hood remain virtually unaltered, and comes with no fewer than four different powertrains ranging from the sprightly potent four-cylinder turbo to the diesel-powered V6 engine.
Still, let’s face it: the Q5 has been in the market for the last eight years now, and this fact cannot be ignored. For instance, the Q5 is too firm for some, lacks crucial safety technologies, and the control layout is rather outdated.
As such it would be prudent to put some effort in looking elsewhere first before committing to the Q5, or better yet, you could lease it for some time after which you’d have a better idea of what you want. Some of the alternatives available in the market today include the 2017 Acura RDX. Rumor has it that it has been redesigned fully and offers lots of value for the money. Another alternative is the 2017 BMW X3. It comes with an array of engines to choose from and has some of the latest technologies.
Finally, the 2017 Porsche Macan could be a worthy choice especially if you don’t mind paying more coin. It might be the least versatile but it is undoubtedly the best driving compact crossover you’ll find. Ultimately, it all depends on your priorities, but despite the Q5’s age, it’s still got a lot left in the tank.
2017 Audi Q5 Engine Specs
An eight-speed automatic transmission system is standard, as is an AWD. Under the hood of the 2017 Audi Q5 is a four cylinder turbocharged 2.0L engine. The power generated – 220 hp and 258 lbs. ft. of torque is then forwarded to all the four wheels via the eight-speed auto. Fuel consumption as estimated by EPA stands at 28/20/23 mpg on the highway/city/combined.
Next up is the 3.0L V6 supercharged engine for those looking for an extra oomph. Power generated by this mill is estimated at 272 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet of torque. Various tests drives have concluded one needs only 5.8 seconds for a 0-60 mph acceleration.
The top-of-the-line Q5 3.0 TDI gets a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 rated at 240 hp and 428 pounds-feet of torque. It is the most fuel-thrifty in the entire lineup and returns 31/24/27 mpg.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Q5 Hybrid trim model that combines a battery pack and a 54-hp electric motor for a total output of 245 horsepower and 350 pounds-feet of torque. It is estimated the Hybrid model should return 30/24/26 mpg.
